I stumbled across Tamar Mogendorff this week, a clever New York based arty crafty type. She creates birds, fish, fungi and other bits and pieces out of fabric. I like. And since birds have been featuring in my life rather a lot this week I thought I'd blog. :)
My daughter is in love with cuckoo clocks (thanks to Opa and Grandma) and after watching cuckoo bird after cuckoo bird on youtube this week I couldn't help but think of her when I saw these. Could actually be a fun (and brave) activity to create a bird box or cuckoo clock out of fabric for her wall...I just might.

And as for cushions...mmm my favourite...last night I had the happy opportunity of attending my friend Mel's business launch. The room was filled with delicious cushions. Below is the Tui cushion. Love. And my new Southern Cross cushion (pride of place on my bed). Love love.

Another fun site combining cushions and birdies and other happy things is Scottish based Papa Stour. I love raspberry cushions.

And to tie it all together with a fun toddler activity...my daughter's latest obsession is the iphone application called What Bird NZ? It is awesome! As the screenshot below shows, it displays a touchpad of bird images. Sophia touches a bird with her finger and the application produces the matching bird call. She now knows more bird sounds than me. In fact, she has heard and shown me a Tui when out and about, and it's not unusual to hear a Morepork call coming from her bedroom when the lights are out. :)
This would be a great application to take bird watching. It's surprisingly loud. Can be downloaded for iphones and ipod touches. And it's free. If you have trouble searching for it the guy who designed it has links to the itunes download page here. Fun!
Big thanks to Papa for finding this application and spending hours with Sophia listening to bird calls! :)
